Jesus was the greatest Jewish Rabbi ever. His reinterpretation of the law and the story of His people were and are radical and revolutionary. We sweep under the rug the teachings of Jesus that trouble us. We do not dwell on those that contradict our lifestyle. We explain away what makes us uncomfortable. It is a dead giveaway to an unaligned heart. Our rose colored glasses give us a domesticated Jesus, one whom we can control. By unleashing Him from our man-made traditions to which we have tethered Him, we not only free Him but we discover a new freedom for ourselves.
