These are those who have made a profession but have never committed their lives to the pursuit of Christlikeness; these are those who became professing Christians to advance their business or office.  They pay lip service to a kind of Christianity that is civil religion, cross-less and powerless to change their lives and the ones around them.  They are highly insulted if you talk about sacrifice, suffering and self-denial as the way of being a disciple.  Bible study, prayer and accountability to a body of believers they carefully avoid.  They just go on professing.

“This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” Matthew 15:8 (NRSV)
