Jesus said, “You shall receive power after that the Holy Spirit has come upon you and be my witnesses” (Acts 1:8). When the day of Pentecost “had fully come, they were all filled with the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:4). The church was born on the day of Pentecost. The church is a Spirit filled community. The promise of the Spirit was not merely for the original disciples. The promise if for every follower of Jesus Christ.
Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.” Acts 2:38-39 (NASB)
