Three of the early heresies about Jesus’ nature were, (1) He is not human. (2) He is not divine. (3) He is half man and half God. The church’s response was and is, He is fully human and fully divine with an indivisible nature. The incarnation was where and how this took place. You and I are extensions of the incarnation. When we open our bodies to the coming of the Holy Spirit, we become a place where God’s Spirit again meets flesh and is expressed through it. We become the means of God touching humanity with gifts of heaven. We cannot even think about being expressions of Christlikeness without the Holy Spirit. The literal translation of Ephesians 5:18b is “Be being filled with the Spirit”. It is a constant action and need. Jesus, keep giving us your Spirit! Keep renewing us! Keep filling us! Amen!
