Worship is at its best when it moves away from performance to congregational participation. We are not worshipping if we are not participating. When we enter into the place of worship it is important that we disengage from distractions to focus on the Lord. That is a discipline. Our minds wander. Our thoughts bounce around. If we are reading the scripture together, singing songs together, praying prayers together, it keeps us focused on why we are there. Christian worship is about Jesus. He is worthy of our full participation in His praises.
Lord, forgive me for worship that is present in body but not in mind and soul. “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.” Psalm 19:14 (NIV)
