Why do we spend more than we earn?  Why do we create debt that we can’t afford?  Is it rooted in covetousness?  Is it an unwillingness to be content with what we have?  Is it a desire to have all the things that others have, though we have not yet earned enough to have them?  Is it about immediate gratification where the virtues of discipline, patience and delayed gratification are despised?  Is it about competition and status?  Is it about wrongful pride?  Is it not a spiritual problem?  Does it not call for repentance?  Does it not call for developing disciplines that will produce a character change?

“Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.” Luke 12:15
