“When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son” (Hosea 11:1 ESV). Israel coming out of Egypt was the first Passover: the great salvation rescue, the great redemption. Jesus was the second Passover. He Himself is the sacrificial Lamb whose blood sprinkled over the doorpost of our lives ends what the death angel can do. He also came to bring us out of sin’s captivity, giving us freedom; He came to become our Promised Land.
“So Joseph got up and took the Child and His mother while it was still night, and left for Egypt. He remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet: “OUT OF EGYPT I CALLED MY SON.” Matthew 2:14-15 (NASB)
