Some of the words for worship in the NT carry with them the picture of one bowing prostrate on face or knees. The wise men gave gifts to Jesus on their knees (Mt 2:11). The leper who was cleansed fell on His knees before Jesus (Luke 11:16). The disciples were on their faces after Jesus had calmed the storm. “When they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat prostrated themselves before Him saying, ‘Truly you are the Son of God’” Matt 14:32-33 (A Paraphrase). Jesus was on His knees in the garden (Mt 26:39). The disciples were prostrate for the Great Commission (Mt 28:17). Stephen died on His knees (Ac 7:60). Let us lie at the feet of our King.
