Being a follower of Christ can never be reserved for one compartment of our life or one day of our week. We cannot separate our spirituality from any of our actions. We must not hold to a moral and ethical duplicity. We cannot claim to be a friend of Christ and at the same time chummy with the world’s way of being and doing. (I John 2:4-5, 15). We cannot be kind to folks who agree with us, harsh and unkind in debate and claim that we love our neighbor as ourself; we cannot speak nice in Sunday school and mean in our politics. When we compartmentalize spirituality with duplicitous living we are destroying our witness. This mocks our relationship with God and each other. Let’s be Christian is all of our thoughts, words and deeds.
“Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” (1 John 2:15 NASB)
