The story of Jesus was not what someone decided to make up. It is the story of one who came to live among humans; they bore witness of who He was and what they saw. “For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty” (2 Peter 1:16 ESV). They saw His miracles. They heard a teaching with authority like nothing that had gone before. They heard a voice from heaven that attested him on the Mount of Transfiguration. They received and proclaimed Him as the long promised Messiah. They saw His kindness, compassion, and justice displayed. They saw in Him, not just God’s final prophetic word, they viewed Him as the Word encased in flesh with skin on it. They saw and felt God in Him. They bore witness that He was the eternal Son. It was not a myth that was dumped into their laps; it was a very real Person.
