“A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a slave above his master.” Matthew 10:24 (NASB). We plan our lives as if we are in charge. To do our own thing is a way of rejecting our Master and denying our bond slave status. To refuse to follow Him in what He taught, did and endured, is a way of setting ourselves above our Master. Jesus lived lower than a slave; we have to get down there with Him; we are never above Him.
