Jesus taught us to address God as Father in our prayers.  Father speaks of close familial relationship.  But Jesus also taught us to say, “Our Father, hallowed be thy name.”  Our Father is beyond chummy; He is holy.  We are to come to Him with complete reverence and high awe.  We are never to bring Him down to the level of a mere buddy.  The one who is our Friend is also exalted, high and lifted up.  Yet, He is our Father who desires to be near to His children.

“God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen.” 1 Timothy 6:15b-16 (NIV)
