“The widow who is really in need and left all alone puts her hope in God and continues night and day to pray and to ask God for help” 1 Timothy 5:5 (NIV).  You do not read far in the Old or New Testament without seeing that God is really concerned about widows.  One of the first things the NT church did was to organize itself to take care of them.  The widowed not only deal with grief and loneliness, but they deal with a whole set of problems just to survive. They are quickly forgotten.  They are invisible in a room.  They suffer in silence.  List all the ones you know.  Use your sanctified imagination to reach out to them in small and large ways.

“Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.“ James 1:27 (NASB)
