The Spirit and Self-control
You will need some help with this. “He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit, than he who captures a city” (Proverbs 16:32 NASB). We are not strong enough to rule our spirit unless the Spirit Himself rules in us; we are unable, unless He enables us. One of the fruits of His activity in our life is self-control. This is God saying to us, “You cannot do this by yourself.” He is encouraging us to let go and let Him help us through what seems impossible. He enables what He commands; He empowers the weak.
