I have met a few Christians along the way who know all about law, quoting the Ten Commandments, lifting high a moral standard who know nothing of grace. They really don’t understand the cross, having never experienced or truly accepted grace, but continually quote the law to everyone. Often they self-righteously feel they have kept the letter of all that they are quoting. Such a person has never understood their own sinfulness, their own need of great mercy. The thing they need most is to gaze at mercy and be gripped by grace until their legalism is swept away by embracing waiting divine love.
“But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 2:4-6 (NASB)
