Maybe Israel thought that a land flowing with milk and honey was going to be like a vacation from their wilderness troubles. They found out that there were giants in the land and battles to be fought. Their new address was not Easy Street, Canaan Land. We too want a problem free existence. We want all the fruit of the land and none of the difficulties of living there. Could it be that milk and honey without spiritual warfare might just make us overfed and under-exercised spiritual weaklings? Our love of leisure has the potential of sidelining us from what will advance Messiah’s cause and our character.
“Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased and possess the land.” Exodus 23:30 (NRSV)
