“Mary said, “Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.” (Lu 1:38). Irenaeus contrasted Mary to Eve, “For as Eve was seduced by the word of an angel to flee from God, having rebelled against His word, so Mary by the word of an angel received the glad tidings that she would bear God by obeying His Word.” Eve did her own thing. Mary models obedience. There is no substitute for obedience.
