“In the great Suffering Servant passage (Isaiah 52:13 to 53:12) we learn that the Suffering Servant is the Man of Sorrows. We may want someone to walk with us who makes us feel good, someone who is very pleasant company. If we walk in His company we may look in His direction and see Him weeping. We can ignore His tears or join ours with His. He can move us by His Spirit until our heart is broken by what breaks His heart.
“Jesus needs followers who will cry with Him. Those who will see the brokenness of the broken so clearly that liquid love drips from their hearts and runs from their eyes. In the natural world tears blur our vision. In the spiritual world they may cause us to see much more clearly.” (From “The Self-Talk of God”, by H. Lamar Smith)
“He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief” (Isaiah 53:3).
