Most of us have a desire, as an ideal, to love God and neighbor more.  This desire is of little consequence as a goal if it finds no ways for practical action.  Do we look for ways to express it?  Does it generate any concrete deeds?  Human need all around us calls love to act.  As you approach a new year, be alert to needs to meet.  Let the Spirit inspire sanctified imagination on how you can respond.  Don’t worry about what you cannot do (this is a convenient out); instead think about what you can do. Stop thinking about something big (your pride is showing); think about something little. “Little is much when God is in it.”  Cast your bread on the water and let God control the ripple effect.

“Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can.”

(Parts of this were used by John Wesley, and others.  It is a great statement, from multiple sources, to inspire our service.)
