The eternal love of God is something that abides in us and in which we abide. It makes a home in us, and we make it our home. “If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love” John 15:10 (NASB). Love is more than a warm feeling. Keeping Jesus’ commandments is not insignificant and is evidence of love being our dwelling place.
“The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him” 1 John 2:4-5 (NASB). “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome” 1 John 5:3 (NASB).
