God does not force people to obey his own laws. Though His laws are against it, He does not stop those who are determined to use God’s name in vain, worship idols, steal, kill, destroy, commit adultery, bear false witness, and covet. He pursues us in love, but does not force. Paul reminds us that the law cannot change a person. Our forcing is futile; it misrepresent God, along with the Christ of the gospel. God’s energy, called love and grace, wants to draw all persons to Himself; “He is not willing that any should perish”. Since God does not force people, neither should we. His overtures of love draw and inspire, so should ours.
