“If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me. “For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it.” (Luke 9:23-24 NASB). What does the cross mean? Jesus tells us here. If you are trying to save your life just for your own self you will be sorely disappointed with what you become. It is a paradox; we can only save ourselves by losing ourselves. When you give yourself away for a cause or person you will find purpose in your life; Jesus is a cause and a person worth giving yourself without reservation. Your all will be to die to yourself and live for Him. In the process you will find yourself, meaning and significance. It is both psychologically and spiritually true that there is never fulfillment in living only for yourself. A life turned in on itself will sicken and die; a life turned out toward God and others will flourish and bloom.
