We view stones as cold, solid, static and lifeless.  Temples throughout the ages were built of this kind of stone.  The early church had a vision of a new temple made up of living stones.  Jesus was the living Cornerstone, proven by His resurrection from the dead.  He had built around Himself disciples and followers who were made living stones by His Spirit.  This is a dynamic temple, and organism vibrating with the very life of God.  An inviting place.  A warm place.  A transforming place.  A home for the soul.  A spiritual house.  A dwelling place for the very Spirit of God.

“And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God, you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 2:4-5 (NASB)
