Living sacrifice is about our sanctification. “Present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God….For just as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, resulting in sanctification…and the outcome, eternal life.” (Romans 6:13,19, 22 NASB). Romans 6 language of presenting yourselves as slaves of righteousness parallels what the OT prophets were calling for in place of sacrifice. As we said they were calling for “kindness, mercy, justice and obedience”. The NT word present yourselves as servants of righteousness involves all of that. The point is this, the presentation of ourselves as living sacrifices (Romans 12:1-2) is not an abstract spiritual experience; it is a practical act of doing what is right by serving and meeting people’s needs.
