Jesus said to the woman, “Give me a drink”. Any self-respecting Rabbi would never have done this. They would have been contaminated by both her reputation and her being a Samaritan. Jesus was not afraid of such religious nonsense. Jesus was not made unclean by touching the unclean, but this woman was made clean when her life was touched by the clean. There is a separation from sin that is right, but there is a separation from sinners that is wrong. Let’s be clean, pure and holy, and in love, let’s go touch someone else who can become clean. Let’s be like our Teacher and offer them living water.
John 4:13–15 (ESV) 13 Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” 15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.”
