It is an illusion to that think you can change the world through new laws and better application and interpretations of old laws.  Paul is very careful to point out the flaw of all of that in Romans and Galatians.  The law cannot save us.  Jesus never preached a sermon against slavery or infanticide, prevalent in the ancient world, but His message eventually changed both.  He knew that condemnation would not change people but love would.  All of our railings against the sins of our day do not change a soul.  But if we will sit down with one sinner, as Jesus would have, love them, respect them and hear their story, minister the grace of Christ to them, we might just be the means of changing their story.

“We know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.” (Galatians 2:16 ESV)
