We have made discipleship too much about indoctrination and not enough about behavioral change.  Yes, it is important that we have good doctrine, but it is easy to make discipleship indoctrination into tribal beliefs.  We embrace the Apostles’ Creed, as we should.  But a disciple is one who has been invited to be an apprentice of our incarnate Lord, the One who lived among us and taught us how to behave in this world.  All of us struggle with our behavior more than we struggle with our doctrine.  The Spirit of our Teacher shows us the way to flesh out Jesus’ Presence to our world.

“These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you.  But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” John 14:25-26 (NASB)
