Advent Glimpses of our Future

Someday, our bodies will be like the glorious resurrected body of our Lord.  All along, the plan has been for us to look like Jesus, “the image of the invisible God”, and to be transformed into His likeness.  The resurrection is the physical component of that likeness.  Until then, sanctification is the pursuit of the divine image and holiness is the result of it.  When we are traveling the path of Christlikeness, know that it takes you all the way to your eternal future.  The hope of His return is the hope of our final transformation.  Everything is moving toward that.  This motivates us toward a Christlike maturity.

“But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself” (Philippians 3:20–21 ESV).

“Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who this hope in him purifies himself as he is pure” (1 John 3:2-3 ESV)
