Jesus said, “Let it pass from me”. Sometimes we pray this as well. It is not a sin to pray that prayer. The struggle can bring us to say, “Nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” God does allow some things to pass from us. He may let us avoid some things. But He does not let us avoid everything. It is not easy to know the difference. It took a thrice repeated prayer, even for Jesus. It took real surrender for our Lord. If the cup passes, thank Him. If He does not let it pass, trust Him. The cup may just lead to our resurrection.
Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.” He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” Matthew 26:38-39 (NKJV)
