For those who followed him, Jacob left a well from which to drink (John 4:12). Have you left any wells for those who have come behind you? Have you “dug out” something very life giving to leave for the next generation? Jacob left a physical well for natural water. Jesus, being greater than Jacob, left a well of living water. Leave something for those who come behind you that is greater than earthly things; leave behind the true legacy of heavenly things.
“So he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there; so Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, was sitting beside the well. It was about the sixth hour…Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:5-6;13-14 (ESV)
