Mary knew the Hebrew phrase, “The Lord is my Shepherd.” In the New Testament, Jesus is both Lamb and Shepherd. The Baptist said, “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep” (John 10:11). On the cross He was the Good Shepherd, laying down His life for the sheep, and at the same time He was the Sacrificial Lamb! He who experienced being a Lamb knows how to be your Shepherd.
“He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He did not open His mouth; Like a lamb that is led to slaughter, and like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, so He did not open His mouth” Isaiah 53:7 (NASB). ”Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing.” Revelation 5:12 (NASB)
