Christians are custodians of the good news that the Kingdom of God has come, is here, and will come. This is the government of God, the rule of King Messiah. Its constitution is the ethic and teachings of Jesus. Its method is to give up our lives for His sake and the gospel’s. Jesus warned about the power and control of the governmental leaders of His day and calls His followers to servant leadership (Mt 20:24-38). We must not sell this birthright out for the politics of the moment. We are more attuned to the world’s politic than the radical politics of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus weeps. The church languishes in powerlessness. Satan rejoices. The Spirit calls out, “Repent!”
“But I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Therefore remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you and will remove your lamp stand out of its place—unless you repent.” Revelation 2:4-5 (NASB)
