Without realizing it, we all see Jesus through a chosen set of lenses.  Our eyes have been preconditioned by narrow teachings, historical and cultural forces, of which we are not even aware, to see Him in a certain way, resulting in a failure to see Jesus as He is.  None of us are free from these filters.  The Bible itself often has something to say to us in a passage that would reshape our vision of Jesus, but we are unable to see it.  It takes disciplined study, prayerfulness and thoughtfulness to get past these ingrained perceptions to a clear view of our Lord.  We need the Holy Spirit to help our eyes to see.  His primary mission is to reveal Jesus to us.

“The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!” Matthew 6:22-23 (NASB)
