Joseph was the beloved son of Jacob’s cherished wife, Rachel. He entered life celebrated. It looked like he might have been born with a silver spoon in his mouth, but he was destined for a life of suffering. Yes, he is going to save a nation in the end and play a key part in God’s story, but first he must suffer. This is the part we do not like nor want. It is the way of the cross. Life has its sufferings woven together with its blessings. In this, God blesses others through our pain.
“As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive.” Genesis 50:20 (NASB)
