Jesus will come back again. The angels promised it. The apostles proclaimed it. The creeds declare it. A broken world needs it. He will come to restore all things; He will make all things new. The One who created the universe will make a new creation wherein dwells righteousness. Heaven and earth will become one. Pain and sickness will be gone (Revelation 21). Darkness and death will be banished by Light and Life. The deepest longings of our soul will be filled with the peaceful rest of knowing we are finally home with our Lord.
“When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. While he was going and they were gazing up toward heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood by them. They said, ‘Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.’” Acts 1:9-11 (NRSV)
