The shortest creedal statement in the New Testament is Jesus is Lord. This Christian confession cannot come from the heart and soul unless the Holy Spirit reveals it to us. Flesh and blood cannot reveal it (Matt 16:17). Neither can the believer really say this with the lips and mean it from the heart except by the Holy Spirit. Paul said, “No one can say, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ except by the Holy Spirit” I Corinthians 12:3 (NASB). The Holy Spirit cleansing us of our self-sovereignty enables us to say “Jesus is my Lord” and mean it.
