When we say Jesus Christ, let us not forget what we are saying.  Christ is not Jesus’ last name.  It is Greek for the Hebrew Messiah.  Messiah means “Anointed One”; Jesus is the long promised descendent of David who has come to set up an everlasting Kingdom, the ultimate government.  This is way more political than we have yet heard.  This Messiah is the One of whom it was said, “The government is on His shoulders.”  He is more than our personal Savior.  He is our King.  We did not elect Him.  He has ruled from all eternity.  His is the “Kingdom and the power and the glory”.  Maybe we just need to say, “Jesus Messiah”; this would remind us where our ultimate allegiance lies.

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.” (Isaiah 9:6-7 NIV)
