It was hoped that the Messiah was to be a great warlord who would release all His fury against Israel’s enemy Rome. He did not take up the sword against it, much to the dismay of His followers. Instead, the “fury’ with which He would defeat was dying like a lamb; when we thought He was merely lying in the grave, our Warrior King had entered the fray to defeat the Devil, Death and Hades. The One who preached good news in Galilee also preached it in Hades; Christ crashed the gates of Hades and led prisoners out (Ephesians 4:8–10,1 Peter 3:18-20; 4:3–6). He set Himself against the evil powers of darkness. He came to break the chains of sin and death. Our Warrior will not stop until He has put all enemies under His feet (I Corinthians 15:25). “Lead on, Oh, King Eternal”.
