Intentions without a plan of action and promises without a plan of follow-through are all deception.  It is double deception, because we deceive the other with the promise and deceive ourselves with our “intentions”, making us think in ourselves that we are “righteous” because we said we were going to do this or that.  A righteous person gives his word, and when he finds out it is going to cost him more than he thought, he still follows through.

“O LORD, who may abide in Your tent? Who may dwell on Your holy hill?  He who walks with integrity, and works righteousness, And speaks truth in his heart…He swears to his own hurt and does not change.” Psalm 15:1-2, 4b (NASB)
