When life is centered in the self, disorientation follows as well as an inner virus that eats away at healthy personhood. We were not meant to be the focal point of life. When we are, we fail to see others properly, along with their needs. When Jesus said, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” He gave the perfect antidote to the sickness of inordinate self focus. We were built for community. We were designed to be in right relationship with ourself, our God, our neighbor and creation. We were built to love and to serve, as Jesus has shown us. Fulfillment and meaning cannot be found in any other way.
