Evil was heaped on Jesus from every direction. While He was being cursed, He was giving a blessing. He was the Eternal Son, but yet He humbly came as the servant of all. He taught His disciples to live in the way He had lived, taking up a cross and following Him. He taught them to love each other, and all people, just as He had loved them. When we live our lives to be a blessing, we are blessed. Further, we are promised that we will inherit a blessing.
“Finally, all of you, have unity of spirit, sympathy, love for one another, a tender heart, and a humble mind. Do not repay evil for evil or abuse for abuse; but, on the contrary, repay with a blessing. It is for this that you were called—that you might inherit a blessing.” 1 Peter 3:8-9 (NRSV)
