Some of us may want to fix things that can’t be fixed. What we must learn is that it is not our duty to fix anyone, only the Spirit can do that. It is, however, our duty to love on folks, to respect them and to be kind to them, treating them like we would like to be treated. The people who are the true change agents in the world are those who exude the grace of Christ, people who find a way to nurture by love. If we care, if we lend a helping hand, and if we show the love of Christ we will influence for good far beyond our “fixing”.
“A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. The tongue of the wise dispenses knowledge, but the mouths of fools pour out folly. A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.” (Proverbs 15:1-2, 4 NRSV)
