The incarnation is far more than a miracle conception. It reaffirms God’s original word that creation is good. Matter is not evil. The human body is not evil. In Jesus, the divine and human met in undivided wholeness. He was not half human and half God; He was fully human and fully God. Jesus, by the indwelling Spirit makes us children of God. This brings us not only into the family of God, but into the mission of God. We are born from above to bring heavenly life down to earth as Jesus did.
“But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth… For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.” John 1:12-14,16 (ESV)
