Someone has said, “Sin is not breaking God’s law, it is breaking God’s heart.”  It is not tablets of stone or a piece of paper that we are hurting.  We are hurting the heart of a loving God.  The Father’s heart breaks when we do not love Him.  It breaks the heart of our Parent when we do not love our brothers and sisters, the other children of our Parent, fracturing His family.  He has the capacity to suffer because He has the capacity to love.  The love He has for us is so much beyond what we can imagine.  The hurt we can cause Him is past our comprehension.

“When Israel was a youth I loved him, And out of Egypt I called My son…I led them with cords of a man, with bonds of love, And I became to them as one who lifts the yoke from their jaws; And I bent down and fed them…So My people are bent on turning from Me.” Hosea 11:1, 4, 7 (NASB)
