We do not need to confess our humanity as if it were sin. The body is not sinful, though sin works through the body. Jesus embraced humanity in the incarnation and affirmed again by that act, “It is good.” We do need to confess our failures to love as we have been commanded. We need to own our mistakes, feeling responsible for them. Humanity is a gift to be embraced and developed toward maturity, following the pattern given to us by the Son of Man, the Ideal Human.
“And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.” Luke 2:52 (NIV)
