We are rescued (saved) by love; we are saved to love. The great sickness of humanity is the failure to receive love and the failure to give love. It degenerates society; it degenerates every soul. The law does not have the power to convert; love has the power to transform. The law can and does condemn; love can heal and restore. God has not called the church to straighten out the world with our laws; He has not called us to convert the culture to our rules. He has called us to be healing agents who heal with the same love that healed us. Love begets love; we learn to love because we discover we are loved.
“And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. We love because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:16, 19 (NIV)
