My King girded Himself with a towel and took a basin and washed my feet.  My protests were to no avail.  His washing healed me.  His washing healed my self rejection by His full acceptance.  He healed me from desire for position when I saw the highest One taking the lowest place.  He healed me from wanting to be first when I saw the First become the last and the least.  He replaced my thirst for power with a thirst for love, which is the greatest power of all.  Competition for place between disciples now seems so wrong; we are all brothers and sisters.  The proof that we have learned this is in practicing it.

“And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. I tell you the truth, slaves are not greater than their master. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message. John 13:14-16 (NLT)
