Our God does not sacrifice humans or even animals for his own pleasure or appeasement.  He sacrifices Himself on our behalf.  Jesus, by His death, ended animal sacrifice forever when He became the “Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world.”  He took upon Himself the price of a fallen creation, not by blaming them, not by destroying them, not by sacrificing them, but by becoming the sacrifice Himself.  This is the revelation of God’s heart toward sinners; this is a full demonstration of the love of God to all humankind.  I fall down amazed!

“But when Christ came as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation), he entered once for all into the Holy Place, not with the blood of goats and calves, but with his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption.” Hebrews 9:11-12 (NRSV)
