The Eternal Son was rich, but He became poor. He chose poverty. Who would do that?! “For you know the generous act of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich” 2 Corinthians 8:9 (NRSV). Do we want to talk about Christlikeness now? When you do, never forget this component of it. All the riches of grace we enjoy is because of His poverty. Throughout Christian history, many Christians have chosen depravation so that in the long run they could enrich the lives of those who follow. There is also a poverty of spirit/deep humility that can enrich the lives of fellow Christians.
