We need to grow in the Christian life and we need to grow into it. What does “it” look like? It is kind and compassionate. It is right and just. Loving justice, it acts to correct injustice. It loves unconditionally. It prays prayers of intercession. It loves its neighbor as itself and its enemy like a neighbor. It is non-violent, never retaliates. It is compassionate to those in need. Whether in abundance or poverty, it gives. It is slow to anger and quick to be kind. Oh Lord, help us to grow into it.
“You must understand this, my beloved: let everyone be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger; for your anger does not produce God’s righteousness.” James 1:19-20 (NRSV)
